Understand your sales

How to use SmugSales:
Step 0: Download SmugSales here
Step 1: Download your Smugmug sales log file:
Step 2: Open the file in Excel, select the data area, and right-click copy (all of it, columns A ->
J)
Step 3: Open the SmugSales Spreadsheet, and paste the data into the data into the
first worksheet
Don't worry about all those nasty #N/A and #VALUE!s, we'll fix the ones that matter
soon...
Step 4: Go to the Albums LookUp Table tab:
Here things get a little touchy... We've got to get the Album names for IDs, otherwise
all we'd see is those numbers
Windows 2000, XP, 2003 Users
You're life is easier, I've written a mini-tool that will extract this data for
you automagically...
I should warn you at this stage, this software is something of a Beta release,
it's very simple and unlikely to cause any problems, but if you're really paranoid,
you might want to use the Mac instructions instead.
The main problem is that if something goes wrong, the application is not going to
give helpful messages, more like techno-gibberish... This will be fixed over time...
Step 5a: Remeber to install .NET from the download page.
Steb 5b: Run the .EXE file that came in the Zip file, this will ask you for your
smugmug email address and password, so it can go away and get your information:

It will then ask you for a file name, give it somewhere sensible (The file ending
should be .CSV) and let it download the file.
Open the file in Excel, copy and paste the data into the AlbumIDs sheet and skip
the next section to step 6....
Windows 95, 98, Mac, Other...
I'm afraid for now you're going to have
to add the Album mappings to this tab by hand. Fear not, this isn't hard, it's just
tedious.
Go to one of your photos on Smugmug and look at the URL, you'll see it breaks down
into a bunch of fields, seperated by '/'s
Take for example:
http://www.lukechurchphotography.com/gallery/898226/1/40784424
This breaks down into
The domain: www.lukechurchphotography.com
The AlbumID: 898226
The ImageID: 40784424
What we want is the AlbumID, and the name (in this case 'Animals')
So in that list you need to add:
(If you had clicked on a gallery instead of an image it would have been missing
the last two fields, and just had the AlbumID, but since this is all we want, it
doesn't matter, just add that)
Now, there is a slight catch, in order for the lookup to work, this list needs to
be sorted, so let's do that now:
Select the columns A and B (Click and drag the Gray A onto the Gray B)
Data | Sort
You wish to sort by 'Album ID', Ascending, and your data range has a Header Row,
as below:
Click OK... Should all be done
---
Everybody
Step 6: We now just need to go through each of the tables, and update them. This
bit is really simple.
For each worksheet with a table in it (they all end in Summary), right click on
the table an click update:

You're DONE!
Now you can look through the summaries and charts at your lesuire:
Once you're used to it, you can do this whole process in under a minute.
