Using SmugFlickr
|

|
Detailed usage instructions, with screenshots etc. will be published when the application reaches
beta level. For now, it is hopefully all reasonably straight forward.
The basic idea is that you:
- Give it your Flickr username (your sets must be public for this to work)
- Login to your smugmug account and give it the category/subcategory where you would like your sets copying to
- Hit go, sit back and enjoy
Is it safe to use?
It's alpha grade software, it should work if the world plays nicely, but if you pull the network cable
out, it's likely to give you some horrible message and crash and burn. This will of course be fixed in a later release.
Will it eat my data?
A perfectly reasonable question. No. At no point does it ask you for your Flickr password, so it can't
change anything on Flickr, it can only copy from it. So even if the worst comes to the worst (which
I really hope it won't), all your photos will be safe on Flickr
Are there any known issues with what's there?
Yup, I'm afraid so:
- The user interface will seem to freeze during parts of the interaction with Flickr and Smugmug.
Don't worry, it hasn't crashed, it'll come back
- The actual numerical figures in the process dialog may be a little counter intuitive
- It doesn't handle failure to contact Smugmug or network issues very well
- Failures during album creation cause application failure (They're rare and only occur near the start of the process)
- It must be run in one go, there is no ability to resume. Hence it's not suitable for dial-up users
Like I said, Alpha software. Don't worry, all these will be fixed, just as soon as I get the time.
Have fun with it, let me know if it's any use and what you would like doing. I'll be glad to hear any
suggestions.
